Elegant and ef0icient: Miele’s new integrated slimline extractor units

With its new range of slimline cooker hoods, Miele is admirably demonstrating just how elegantly and inconspicuously ventilation technology can be integrated into any kitchen space. Boasting best-in-market energy-ef?iciency, the new DA2690 and DA2620 integrated cookerhoods round-off Miele’s quest for true integration. 20 April 2015, Johannesburg: When it comes to the design of cookerhoods, worlds collide.

For some, a cookerhood should be an eye-catching feature in the kitchen; for others they should blend in with surrounding furniture and go about their work as inconspicuously as possible. Miele’s brand new extractor units make an art from being inconspicuous – the DA2690 and DA2620 extractors are unobtrusive and yet elegant, work exceptionally efHiciently and consume only a minimum of energy. Says Mercia de Jager from Miele: “For several years now, there has been a marked trend towards the full integration of cookerhoods in kitchen cabinetry.

This is in keeping with the general trend of true appliance integration, especially popular with eat-in and open-plan kitchen designs. Well, to this end, Miele has launched the integrated, sleek and beautiful DA2690 and DA2620 cookerhoods to its already extensive extractor range.” Seamless integration An extractor unit integrated into a wall unit or a bespoke canopy reduces the concept of a cooker hood to basics, explains Mercia: “On the exterior, only the extraction surface and controls are visible. Miele's new extractor units are characterised by their very slim build – with a depth of only 30cm, they are ideal for integration into shallow wall units popular in modern kitchens as they add a touch of levity.

These extractor units are available in two widths – the DA2690 measures 90cm, and the DA2620 measures 120cm. Optimum functionality The suction area on these models is covered by a plain panel, which guides rising steam and vapours outwards towards a narrow grille around the edges. On entering the units, air passes through the concealed stainless-steel grease Hilters, as well as an additional active charcoal Hilter in recirculation mode.

The visible trim and the panel on both models are available in CleanSteel with a stainless steel Hinish, or in Brilliant White, where the panel is made from white safety glass. Both panels can be removed for easy cleaning in a dishwasher. State-of-the-art technology

A common feature on both models is Con@ctivity 2.0, which adjusts suction power to correspond with what is actually happening on the hob down below. The Miele hob unit – and there are many models to select from – transmits its settings via an RF link to the extractor.

The installation of Con@ctivity 2.0 is very simple and merely involves inserting the RF transmitter, which comes with the extractor, into its sheath. Supreme energy efficiency Both the DA2690 and the DA2620 models are A-rated for energy efHiciency, in accordance to the new EU energy-labeling scheme for cookerhoods, which came into effect in January 2015.

To achieve this, Miele uses highly durable LED downlights and an energy-efHicient DC fan on these extractors. This fan also contributes towards reducing sound emissions as well – in Setting 3, these models are super quiet, boasting a mere 52dB.

Vented and recirculation Both the Miele DA2690 and the DA 2620 extractor units can be operated in vented or recirculation mode or even in combination with an external fan. A remote handset is also available for these models as an optional extra.
